Rewards of the Work!

It would be impossible for Bremerton Rescue Mission to get very far at all without faithful, hard working volunteers who own the work in the good times and in the challenges. On Friday, volunteer Bill shared a devotion and offered to pray for anyone with a need; new guest shares her grief of having lost daughter; Bill’s wife Marlene who cooked the meal was able to help the gal – Marlene and Bill had lost their only daughter. I’m thankful for Spirit-filled volunteers working hard and looking for the opportunity to love in Jesus’ name! Watch a 2:30 video to visit the Friday Night Hub.

Put me In Coach, I’m Ready to Play

Bremerton Rescue Mission faces a fine challenge – more players than positions. We are working every day to mobilize as many people as we can and to put them in the right positions. Keep being squeaky wheel! Keep bugging the coach!

Meanwhile, we recommend the book “When Helping Hurts – How to Alleviate Poverty without Hurting the Poor and Yourself.” The authors Steve Corrbett and Brian Fikkert make some important points:

  • Did you know that when you are working with those in need you can experience “compassion fatigue”?
  • Did you know that sometimes by helping someone with their immediate needs you might actually be doing more harm than good?
  • Did you know that even if you have a nice home, two cars and healthy bank account you can still be poor?

Have we gotten you intrigued? We hope so. We recommend for all of our volunteers read this book.

Every one needs a helping hand now and then, but the homeless are struggling just to survive.  None of us can solve all the problems of the world, but each of us can help a little.  If all of us help just a little the difference would be monumental.

Can you help just a little?

Can you give a small amount of time like an hour or two a week?

C
an you give a small amount on a regular bases, like once a month?

T
here are many ways that you can help the Mission:
  • Volunteer to prepare and/or serve meals
  • Volunteer to work at on of the site locations
  • Volunteer to sort and organize clothing
  • Donate clothing, blankets, towels and  hygiene items
  • Donate operating funds

If you would like to assist us, please send your name and phone number to our Volunteer Coordinator, Amy O'Shaughnessy .
