By-Donation Lunch
What does ingenuity, fresh food and talented cooks combine to make? We take the truck on the road to serve lunches-by-donation to give our dinner guests an opportunity to give back to the mission, gain work experience and help earn funds to pay for our evenings dinners. The Red Couch - New Opportunities for BRM
!
Bremerton Rescue Mission is honored to partner with Red Couch Ministry to add Dinner Site #4 in Bremerton. Red Couch serves Sunday dinner from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the corner of Hwy 303 and Riddell Avenue. The partnership provides Red Couch with greater resources - including truck, showers and kitchen - to serve homeless and low-income residents and it provides BRM with some operation-muscle as Mike and Amy will be helping Larry and Sandy with the day to day operations for the mission and Mission Guy Lunch truck.

Mission Guy Truck on the Road - Commissary in Operation - Friday Nights growing crazy

BRM LogoWe've been able to put the catering truck in operation on Monday nights at Rocket Coffee on Kitsap Way and on Wednesday nights at Coram Deo on Hwy 303.

With daylight savings time our numbers have nearly doubled at the Rocket Coffee site, which is 100% outdoors.

BRM Logo
The truck is wholly self-contained on the road with its own propane-powered generator, plumbing system, cooking equipment, hot holding, refrigeration, service window and counter and tons of storage. Click here for more photos and video tour of Mission Guy.

Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday we load the truck with whatever equipment and supplies
BRM Logo and dinner is necessary to serve the dinner site. Supplies include clothing and hygiene products and Bibles. Equipment includes tables and chairs, tents, signs and food-service equipment. The mission keeps all of its supplies and equipment in a commissary located at Four Young Customers - two wearing their new coats6th Street and Naval Avenue in Bremerton. We're grateful for the many gre
at volunteers who have helped us launch this effort. Each night requires nearly ten volunteers to serve smoothly and we have a new volunteer orientation coming up later in February for anyone who wants to help serve (see Volunteer Section below).

Still, our Friday night dinner at the Hub on Hwy 303 is growing with nearly seventy people showing up for dinner. We now have showers, haircuts, clothing and hygiene packs and great, great dinners - thanks to God for what He is doing; thanks to our great volunteers. Watch this 1:33 video for an update on the Friday Night Dinner.

Kitsap County Facts
(from United Way)
  • Kitsap County’s unemployment rate hit 8.4% in March of 2009 – twice as high as a year ago.  Many more breadwinners are facing unpaid cutbacks in work days or hours.
  • Oral health care was identified as the #1 need in our latest community assessment.  4.      The Salvation Army reports having served more than 39,000 meals during the past fiscal year, an increase of 3,000 meals per year for each of the past three years.
  • Our economic downturn is a major factor in the 84% increase in referrals and inquiries to Kitsap Mental Health.
  • Some of our county’s food banks are now serving twice as many families as they have in the past.
  • Twenty-five percent of the homeless population in Kitsap County are children under the age of 1.
  • More than 130 families are on the waiting list for emergency housing at Kitsap Community Resources. Many of these families have school-age children.
  • Kitsap County went from a foreclosure rate of 1.4% in October 2008 to 5.7% by April 2009.  Bankruptcies have nearly doubled in the past two years, and not surprisingly our homeless count rose from 715 in 2008 to 822 in 2009.
